Japan is known for being one of the safest countries in the world for humans, but it also seems to cater to turtles as well.

Japan had recently had a problem with turtles wandering onto their railroad tracks and getting stuck between the switching rails. When the switches would flip, they would fail to close completely due to the turtles’ bodies. This, in turn, caused many train accidents.

As a solution, Japanese railroad companies teamed up with the Suma Aqualife Park in Kobe, Japan, to build and install turtle tunnels that pass under the tracks.
