Can you imagine the cast of Saturday Night Live being jailed for a skit our new president finds offensive? Think for a moment about where that leads. News and media outlets asking for government approval of what they can and can't report for fear of repercussion? Our newspapers and journalism skewed by government-praising propaganda. Sounds a lot like North Korea to me.
The fact is that our first amendment, the one that guarantees freedom of speech, of the press, and of peaceful assembly, was put in place specifically to encourage the American peoples' criticism of government policies and leaders. We are meant to be a part of those checks and balances we all learned about in school through this inalienable right.
